At Cabell County Library, 455 9th St, Huntington, WV 25701
Important Dates:
ASAP: Sign up and pay a non-refundable deposit to @AskIGW of $10 through PayPal, here: https://shorturl.at/ahrDF . We are limiting the number of participants, so please don’t wait to sign up. Please note, this intensive is for fiction writers.
August 9: meet via Zoom at 6pm EST to discuss how to critique, and what you should ask for from your group members.
August 18: your work, up to 5,000 words which can be a scene or a synopsis, must be submitted to AskIGW@gmail.com. You must pay the balance at this time, also. Those who do not pay their balance will not have their work sent to the group for critique.
September 1: Critique your groups’ work. Final critiques must be sent to AskIGW@gmail.com by Sept. 1st. (Yes, I know it’s a holiday.) You’ll receive the critique of your work this weekend. We strongly recommend you read through it, let it sit for a couple of days, then read through it again. Then, come with questions on how to fix the issues found with your story. Your group, who has all read your book, will be excited to brainstorm with you.
September 9: Meet! Brainstorm! Lunch! Learn!
Spend Saturday, Sept. 9 with us at Cabell County Library. Our critique intensive will give you a chance to meet other writers and discuss your writing in small guided groups. You will submit your work, up to 5000 words by August 18th to AskIGW@gmail.com. It can be a synopsis or scene/chapter of a fiction work. You’ll be assigned into groups and will be guided on how to critique your other group members’ work. Your group will critique each other’s work, and you’ll receive this feedback before meeting us in September. (Helps to take the sting out! Critique is hard, even for us.) During the weekend there will be workshops, writing exercises, and a chance to sit with your critique group to brainstorm ideas for your work. You will also have the opportunity to speak with Tobi, Sheila, and/or Developmental Editor Rebecca Barray in a one on one consultation. Space is limited, so please let us know as soon as possible if you’d like to attend. The cost is $100 and includes lunch.
