What do those terms mean… Welp, it depends on the person. Up-market is sort of a blend of literary and genre fiction. Commercial is a term that Tobi gets a bit frustrated with… it means that people buy it. It means that it’s marketable. Hopefully, all of our writing is commercial. Book club fiction are those books that you love and want to share with your friends. Again, they bridge between genre and literary fiction. Be sure to check out the comparison titles the agents and editors have indicated to determine if your manuscript is what they are interested in!
